General information about the IME

Why is an IME required?

Foreign nationals who want to visit or immigrate to one of the M5 countries (Canada, Australia, New-Zealand, USA, UK) need to meet a set of criteria, including medical standards for admissibility.
To be considered admissible, an applicant must not create a danger to public health or public safety, and must not create excessive demand on country’s healthcare or social services.

A medical examination includes any or all the following:

A physical examination
A mental examination
A review of past medical history
Laboratory tests
Diagnostic tests
And a medical assessment of records respecting the applicant

Who must submit the IME ?

Permanent resident applicants
Temporary residents
Refugees

What you need to bring?

The original valid passport is the preferred identification document (ID).
An expired passport (within the last two years) is also acceptable.
If a passport is unavailable, a national ID such as an Aadhar card or PAN card is acceptable with a valid reason.
For very young children without other IDs, a birth certificate may be acceptable.
If You don’t have an ID card, you are asylum seeker/refugee please contact us
Please bring two colored photocopies of your ID
If you have a letter from the embassy, please ensure to bring it with you.
If you have undergone an IME previously, kindly bring the relevant documents, if possible.
If you have a medical history, please bring all relevant medical records and medications.
Additionally, if you wear glasses, ensure you bring them as well.
You do not need to fast; please take your meals and medications as usual.

Payment for any applicable fees.

Canada Specific:

The IME includes a review of your medical history, a physical examination, age-specific laboratory tests and chest x-rays.
Typically, the following routine tests are performed based on age:
1. Urine Examination: For applicants aged 5 years and older.
2. Chest X-ray (Posterior-Anterior View): For applicants aged 11 years and older.
3. Syphilis Test: For applicants aged 15 years and older.
4. HIV Test: For applicants aged 15 years and older.
5. Serum Creatinine Test: For applicants aged 15 years and older.

Australia specific

Age/visa/profession specific investigations: may include the following:
Physical examination, Chest X-ray, HIV test, hepatitis B & C test, syphilis test, HbA1C, Serum creatinine etc.
Height, weight, blood pressure monitoring, eyesight check up
Panel members may request additional lab tests for an applicant
As per guidelines you will need to undress to undergarments, You will be offered to wear a gown
Your privacy and dignity are important to us. We provide a separate changing room adjacent to the examination room to ensure your comfort and confidentiality.
We lack the authority to determine applicant’s medical admissibility to relevant country. Only respective migration officers can make that decision.

New-Zealand specific

Physical examination, Chest X-ray
serum creatinine, HIV test, hepatitis B test, hepatitis C test, syphilis test, HbA1C, full blood count
Height, weight, blood pressure monitoring, eyesight check up
Panel members may request additional lab tests for an applicant
As per guidelines you will need to undress to undergarments, You will be offered to wear a gown.

Points To Remember :-

Please note that a standard medical examination does not include breast, genital, gynecological, or rectal examinations.
Panel members may request additional laboratory tests for applicants younger than the recommended age if deemed necessary based on individual risk factors
Additional laboratory tests may also be requested for other applicants as required
During the examination process, a live photo will be taken and uploaded into the e-medical system.
You will also be required to sign several documents.
The examination will record your height, weight, blood pressure, and eyesight.
A chaperone will be provided upon request.
Elderly individuals, pregnant women, and nursing mothers, Clients with special needs will be given priority for examination.
Pregnant women should inform the staff in advance to discuss the X-ray examination.
Females who are menstruating are kindly requested to postpone their IME until the end of their menstrual period. If this is not possible, please inform the staff at the sample collection area.
In case of any abnormality in the investigations you may be contacted for additional lab tests by the embassy
If you get e-mail from the embassy after the submission of IME please contact us.
We lack the authority to determine applicant’s medical admissibility to Canada. Only Canadian migration officers can make that decision.
